Gender Consultation Event
Gender Consultation Event
On 18 February The MCA held its first consultation event for about 30 all female employees.
Speakers for the day included Peter Cardy, Chief Executive, Sue Ketteridge, Director of Finance and Governance, and Chris Thomas, Assistant Director HR and diversity Champion for gender. Jane Jackson Regional Director also attended and helped support the lively group discussions that took place throughout the day.
Peter Cardy introduced the event and confirmed that there were not a great number of female employees – particularly at senior levels in the organisation and this reflected the shipping industry as a whole.
He also said that he encouraged "managers to support our diversity work, including gender, because it’s the right thing to do and it makes good business sense."
Chris Thomas in his discussion also acknowledged that the Agency wished to identify and remove any barriers to progression.
Jennifer Sloane, Regional Office Wales and West attended the event and said:
"A great event - the perfect opportunity to find out what other women around the Agency do and share ideas on things like career development and flexible working. It was a really valuable experience and I hope some of the ideas will be taken forward. I’m curious to see what comes out of the next event in March."
Another event is planned for the end of March and anybody who has not already indicated their interest and who wishes to take part should contact Geoff Boyd,Talent and Diversity Manager, or Gareth Love, Diversity Advisor.
