MIRG 1

Provided by Maritime Training Centres (Warsash, HOTA, PETANS, Fleetwood, Falck NUTEC and South Tyneside)

This training is designed to provide all coastal local authority Fire and rescue services' operational personnel with the sound knowledge, understanding and demonstrate, where applicable, basic ship stability.  These skills will include the ability to carry out the roles of FRS stability officer (Functional role) and stability crew (Firefighter, crew and watch managers). The training laid out in this part of the prospectus will be delivered in four elements which are currently available in a power point format on CD ROM :

• Ship stability 1
• Ship stability 2
• Ship stability 3 -Load Lines
• Ship stability 4- Role of stability crew

This element is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue services operational personnel with the sound knowledge and understanding of safety during helicopter transportation. This module is available on an interactive CD ROM : the module consists of five elements:

• Crew roles
• Health and safety
• Overview of relevant TPE
• Helicopter safety procedures
• Load team

This element is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue services' operational personnel with the sound knowledge , understanding and demonstrate as necessary skills require to carry out the nominal roll procedures required when proceeding to and working on a vessel at sea. The training laid out in this part of the prospedctus consists of two sub-elements:

• Embarkation
• Boarding

This course is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue service operarional personnel with the sound knowledge and understanding of ship construction .The knowledge gained will assist MIRG teams and fire and rescue service personnel to understand ship terminology, generic fire protection systems and have an appreciationof different types of vessels to enable them to be better prepared for dealing with incidents at sea. The training laid out in this prospectus will be delivered in four elements:

• Terminology
• Ship construction
• Specialist vessels
• Fire protection

• This course is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue services' operational personnel with the sound knowledge and understanding of ship firefighting strategy.  The knowledge gained will assist MIRG teams and fire and rescue personnel to understand ship firefighting procedures , fire behaviour within compartments  and command and control at a maritime incident. This will enable them to be better prepared for dealing with incidents at sea.  The training laid out in this prospectus will be delivered in 3 stages:
• Ship  firefighting techniques (MIRG/14.1)
• Compartment fire behaviour (mirg 14.2)
• Command and control (MIRG/14.3)\4

This course is designed to provide local authority fire and rescue service operational personnel with the sound knowledge and understanding of the procedures to be adopted when responding to hazardous materials ("Hazmat")incident at sea. The knowledge gained will assist MIRG  team members and fire and rescue personnel to understand the assessment process prior to attending an incident at sea involving hazardous materials, the FRS categorisation of maritime hazmat incidents and the tasking procedures to be followed. This will enable them to be better prepared for dealing with these types of incidents at sea. The training is not designed to replace other formal Hazmat/CBRN training, but the procedures gained from that training should be transferable. The training laid out in the prospectus will be delivered in three stages :
