Fishing Safety: 24 metre and Over Code Group
Review the Fishing Vessel Safety Provision Rules 1975 as applicable to vessels 24 metres and over (existing vessels). The European regional agreement (Torremolinos Protocol) provides the basis of regime of regulation (new and existing vessels). Effort will concentrate on providing comprehensive and user-friendly regulation that will also provide for effective and ongoing monitoring of standards.

To prepare, implement and consolidate a Code of Safe Working Practice for the Construction and Use of Fishing Vessels of 24m Register Length or above.
Background
The European regional agreement (Torremolinos Protocol) provides the basis of regime of regulation.
Consideration will be given to revising and combining the relevant statutory provisions:
The Fishing Vessels (EC Directive on Harmonised Safety Regime) Regulations (1999 No.2998 as amended).
The Fishing Vessels (Safety Provision) Rules 1975 as amended.
The Fishing Vessels (Lifesaving appliances) Regulations 1988 as amended.
The Merchant Shipping (Crew Accommodation) (Fishing Vessels) Regulations 1975 as amended
