Deputy harbour master contract - Falkland Islands

If you've answered yes to these questions, then you could be the new deputy Harbour Master the Falkland Islands is looking for! 

The Deputy Harbour Master will act on behalf of, and deputise for the Harbour Master in their absence, to provide support in the provision of delivering a maritime administration for the Falkland Islands.

The Role

With direction from the Harbour Master this role includes liaising with the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the Falkland Islands Attorney General to support the delivery of the FI Marine Authority and other appropriate legislative matters alongside participation in the processes within the Red Ensign Group in respect to the Falkland Islands Shipping Registry.

The role includes promotion of the safe navigation within port limits and the development of the Port Marine Safety Code as applicable to the Falkland Islands in order to deliver new policies and procedures required to support the implementation of the Falkland Island Harbours and Ports Ordinance 2017. The successful applicant will be expected to advise and assist in the maintenance of the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan including procurement and maintenance of equipment and carrying out drills, exercises and training to port users to ensure its effectiveness.

The Deputy Harbour Master is expected to operate at a high level implementing and taking decisions within agreed policy as well as developing policy in relevant areas.  The Deputy Harbour Master is supported by the Maritime Officers and the development of the Maritime Authority is seen to be key in the development of maritime issues.

N.B. Applicants without the qualifications listed above may be considered if they satisfy other requirements to a high level, or have had previous experience within fishery protection or law enforcement or other relevant experience appropriate to the post.
