New search and rescue asset comes into service in Ascension Islands

Rescue Quad 1

A new quad bike which will support search and rescue work in Ascension Islands has come into service.

This addition will significantly bolster the capabilities of the island’s Sea and Land Rescue operations.

It has been made possible through funding provided by UK’s Maritime & Coastguard Agency, under the FCDO Conflict, Stability and Security Fund’s (CSSF) Governance programme.

The quad-bike will primarily be used to tow the JetRIB to the Pierhead for swift launching allowing for faster response times. It will also be used for land-based searches too.

Equipped with a VHF Radio, search-lights, and first aid equipment, the 4x4 quad-bike is well-prepared to address various emergency scenarios, ensuring a comprehensive and efficient response mechanism.

It means that Ascension Islands now have two vehicles which means boats can be launched at the same time.
