Qualification work in Montserrat shows commitment to maritime safety

Commitment to safety in maritime by the team at Montserrat has been recognised with an internationally recognised qualification.

Dillon Weekes, who is a marine safety officer with the Montserrat Port Authority has been awarded the Officer of the Watch Deck through the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

“This is a really important moment,” said Dillon. “We are determined to show our commitment to maritime safety here on Montserrat and we will continue to actively train and recruit those who share that high standard with us.”

Alison Leighton, from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, manages its Conflict Stability and Security Fund work on behalf of the UK Government. She said: “Dillon’s hard work and commitment towards safety and standards in maritime has gained him this qualification. I’m delighted that through the CSSF we continue to work with and support the efforts of the team at Montserrat.”
